Golf

Apart from the weather, probably the main thing attracting people to the south of Costa Blanca is golf. There are now several beautiful golf courses, with others under construction.
If you play golf then you will understand the benefits of being able to live or holiday in one place and yet have the choice and variety of different courses, all within a short distance.
If you don't play golf, then consider this: should you plan to rent out your holiday home during the winter, then these golf courses are attracting an abundance of year round golfers who will most likely be your customers.
Properties within a few minutes access of one of the main courses have seen by far the highest rise in value over the last few years. The area just south of Torrevieja, where there are three major golf courses in close proximity to each other, has seen something of a property boom.

The Golf Courses
Starting just south of Torrevieja:

Villamartin
Since opening in 1972, this Putman design course has been at the center of Mediterranean golf. Breathtaking in its beauty, this course is always in superb condition. 18-hole, Par 72, 6130m. This course hosted the 1994 PGA Mediterranean Open.

Also has a swimming pool and tennis courts.

Other facilities include communal swimming pools and tennis courts and 'The Square' which is a multilevel plaza with whole selection of restaurants, bars and shops.

Las Ramblas
Las Ramblas was created in 1991 by the Villamartin management. As the name might suggest, this demanding course rambles through valleys with the occasional water hazard and contains more rugged terrain. There are plans for a new and far more lavish clubhouse to be built soon. 18-hole, Par 72, 5914m

Campoamor
The Real Club de Campoamor opened in 1989. This 18-hole course with its expansive fairways and excellent greens, offers some incredible scenery. With six 'dog legs', this course can prove testing at times! Also has a swimming pool. 18-hole, Par 72, 6200m.

With its stunning new clubhouse, this course will be challenging for some major championships.

Bonalba
Situated very close to Alicante, nestling in the foothills of the Sierra de Bonalba, the course overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. Complete with its own Golf Academy and large driving range. 18-hole, Par 72, 6367m

Quesada
Situated in a deep valley, the Marquesa course is probably the least demanding of the courses featured here. It is an ideal choice if it has been a while since you last played, and you are looking to get your swing back! Situated about 18km north of Torrevieja. 18-hole, Par 72, 6030m

La Manga
Headquarters of the European PGA, La Manga is a Mecca for golfers from around the world. Set in amongst palm trees, there are two well-established 18-hole championship courses, as well as a new 18-hole course. Situated about 60kms south of Torrevieja.

Bowls
There are many Bowling clubs in the Costa Blanca. Six Bowling clubs exist just in the Torrevieja region with a further six near Benidorm. Nearly all of the clubs have their own restaurants which offer fantastic food and drink. Shoe hire is also available at most of the clubs. All different abilities are welcome and the atmosphere is very friendly. This map indicates the positioning of the clubs.
Fishing
Due to the extensive beaches, fishing, and especially underwater fishing, is a very important sport practiced here. This sport deserves a special mention on the beaches of Monsul, Genoveses, San Jose, La Isleta, San Pedro, Las Negras, famous for their deeps, rich in rock, cod, grey, bream, pollack and local species. These places are where the underwater world fishing championships take place.

Walking
The Costa Blanca is ideal for countryside exploration all year round. Travel a short distance inland, and the busy resorts are left far behind. You find yourself surrounded by lovely gardens, orchards and orange groves. Here you can put aside the stress and hassle of modern living. Wild flowers – from the daisy to the most exotic orchid – are found. The air is filled with the essence of fragrant herbs, birdsong drifts along with the breeze, and mountain peaks hug the skyline. The faces of villagers in the fields break into smiles as you pass by. All these images combine to create an attraction you will find irresistible.
Best months for walking
The best time for walking is March to May and September/October, but regular visitors enjoy walks throughout the winter as well.
